CLIENT: MATADOR MOTION

Matt Spendlove of Matador Motion approached me to help build the main character for his animated short 'Low'.

Based on original character design sketches by Dan Bailey I was tasked with bringing B.O.B, a tired and worn-out home pet-care robot to life.

The Process

Working from Dan Bailey's concept sketches, the challenge was to realise B.O.B. as a functioning robot. We began looking at household appliances and domestic robots as a starting point. Inspired by Naoto Fukasawa's Muji product design, this became the jumping-off point for what B.O.B. would look like as a home appliance. The main challenge was creating a believable home droid that retained the charm of the original sketches. Although simple in form and limited in movement, we wanted B.O.B. to be able to express a range of emotions.
