Drive is one of those rare films where almost every detail feels iconic. A modern cult classic set against the neon glow of Los Angeles after dark, where romance, danger and sudden violence sit side by side.

For Second Sight’s 4K limited edition release, the aim was to create a premium box set that captured the atmosphere of the film while celebrating the moments fans know and love.

Working with Peter Hanson, Creative Director at AllCity Media, and with feedback from Nicolas Winding Refn, we developed a set of graphic icons inspired by some of the film’s most memorable scenes.

My Role: Concept development, art direction, 3D design, compositing, retouching and final artwork.

Drive has a devoted fanbase, so the packaging needed to feel special. Something collectable that celebrated the film and gave fans a new way to experience the movie.

The scorpion motif from the iconic jacket had been reinterpreted many times by fans, but we had not seen it treated as a physical 3D object. Translating the design from 2D into 3D became a fun challenge, using jewellery and brooches as a reference point.

The metallic gold finish and neon glow gave us a distinctive visual direction that could be carried across the packaging.
